Michael Lacey

Michael Lacey is an American mathematician currently employed at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Lacey has held the position of Professor of Mathematics since he was hired in 1996. His students often describe him as tough, but fair, with a teaching style that is very conducive to their future success in subsequent classes.

This shows a teacher that is always looking ahead for his students and planning his lessons accordingly.

Lacey is an involved educator, often taking the time to write recommendations for his students and offer guidance. Before this employment, Lacey also held positions at Indiana University, Louisiana State University, and the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill.

Michael Lacey received his P.h.D. in 1987 from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. While there he found himself under the instruction of Walter Philipp, which helped him greatly as he moved forward with this thesis. For his thesis, Lacey used a concept related to the area of probability in Banach spaces.

Additionally, Lacey chose to solve a problem related to the law of iterated logarithm for empirical characteristic functions. As the years go by, Lacey continues to do work within the fields of probability, ergodic theory, and harmonic analysis. Read more: Michael Lacey | Mathalliance

A teacher that is always pushing his students further, he expects the same level of dedication from himself. Over the course of his career, Michael Lacey has been honored with many fellowships and has done extensive research, contributing dramatically to his field.

Lacey has also received support in his research from the Salem Prize, Guggenheim Foundation, the Fulbright Foundation, the Simons Foundation, and many others. This continued work has allowed him to expand the understanding of his field while contributing to the next generation of scientist.
